Ali and I rolled out of the house this morning a mere 5 minutes late and headed to the hospital to get admitted. I got a pretty good night sleep last night but Ali was wide awake at 2:30 ready to go. We took our time getting everything just right, grabbed our go bags, and headed out the door. I'm pretty sure the dogs knew something was amiss, but they have no idea what they're in store for when we come back.
Ali had the foresight to pre-register in order to make things go more smoothly during check-in, but, to our chagrin, they had changed the computer system recently (of course), and there was no record of her in the system. GREEAAAT. Only 30 minutes later, as our registrar was coached on the new system every other step of the way by her boss, we were off to our room to get established.
As I write this Ali is hooked up to the machines, Emmy's heartbeat is white noise in the background over the monitor's speakers, and we're waiting on the nurse shift change to start the pitocin drip. We'd probably be further along in the process if Ali didn't know almost every employee here...she's been getting life updates and all the new gossip from her former co-workers who have made sure to schedule themselves accordingly to take care of us today and tomorrow. We're definitely appreciative of her good friends. We'd also probably be a little bit further along if Ali hadn't backtracked on her dilation status, but it looks like our doctor was a little more generous on Monday than the nurse was this morning. A few steps forward, a step or two back....
Fortunately, she's in great spirits and settled in for this monumental day. I won't bore you with every detail, but I'll be sure to give another update this morning sometime once we start making a little headway. In the meantime, thank you all for the well wishes, Facebook messages, prayers, and text messages. I know it means a lot to Ali (and me too).
~Nick
