As I was marching down the parade route, clutching the twins' giant birthday banner, Grant came up to tell me that he and Megan had decided to ditch their wedding plans the following May for a surprise wedding at their impending engagement partying October! I was overcome with joy and unable to adequately express it! The plan was to be kept a secret and I swore I would! Over the next few weeks, Eliana and I secretly tried to pull together outfits for the kids-who would be flower girls and ring bearers in the wedding! On Thursday, October 14th, we had an intimate bridal shower at Blackhawk Country Club with just us girls; Megan, her mom, aunt, and sisters, Pam, Eliana and I. After picking up the kiddos from school that day, we went to the dress rehearsal dinner at Megan's parents' house, where Grant and Megan shared the big news with the kids! They were so surprised! We had a sweet evening preparing for the big day! I pulled the kids out of school early on Friday the 15th so James could get ready with the men while Emmy, Hannah, Julia and I overtook the Sackies downstairs bathroom. We watched Father of the Bride while we curled our hair. It's one of my favorite memories from the day.
We arrived at the Gomes' house for pictures before the unsuspecting guests arrived. The kids went to hide in a back room for the first hour of the party. At one point, the DJ announced that the engagement party was ending and the wedding was about to begin! Pastor Scott Farmer walked out the front door along with Grant followed by a processional of Nick and Ben and Megan's sister's, Sarah and Katie, followed by Mrs. Gomes and Pam and Nick. The kids came next and were followed by Megan and her dad. It was such a beautiful wedding ceremony and super fun reception. What made it even more spectacular, was that Meg and Grant were just so eager to begin their lives together as a married couple they couldn't wait any longer. Their love for one another is so evident and a blessing to us all!
